Census - 2011 in Uttar Dinajpur district - population phase

The census of India is one of the unbroken series of gigantic exercises that is being done since 1872. This Census-2011 is the fifteenth and seventh after independence. In Uttar Dinajpur district this Census is the second of its nature.
Census provides valuable information about our land and population of various characteristics and their culture. Census data is frequently required for the scholars, businessman, industrialists’ planners and also election authorities. Census has become very essential in every aspect of life.

5254 Enumerators from the different line departments of State Government for Uttar Dinajpur district are selected to perform the duties of census taking for the interest of the district. They trained well and assigned 120 – 150 households of a maximum population of 800.
866 Supervisors also trained to supervise @ 6 Enumerators (i.e., six Enumeration Blocks) of 4800 population.

The Census – 2011 conducted in two phases. The first phase was housing census and houselisting and the second phase is population enumeration. During the first phase of census the buildings, census houses and households were identified and numbered systematically during the period of April to May-2010. The enumeration period has been fixed for the entire country from 9th February to 28th February-2011 with a revisional round up to 5th March.2011. The census moment will be 00.00 hours of 1st March-201.

The each enumerator will first identify the boundaries of the enumeration block he has assigned.
He will prepare a lay-out map of his block with identifiable landmarks.
They will visit each and every household within his enumeration block. They will also visit every building, census houses, households and the persons lining in then without omission or duplication.
They will enumerate the following questions during their census taking:
Name of the person
Relationship to the head
Sex
Date of birth and age (in complete years)
Current marital status
Age at marriage 9in complete years)
Religion
SC or ST (name of the SC/ST)
Disability
Mother tongue
Other language known
Literacy status
Status of attendance in education institutions
Highest educational level attained
Characteristics of workers and non-workers – worked any time during last year (for main, marginal and non-workers)
Category of economic activity
Occupation
Name of the industry, trade or service
Class of worker
Non-economic activity (for marginal and non-workers)
Travel to place of work
Migration characteristics – birth place
Place of last residence
Reasons of migration
Duration of stay in the village/town since migration
Fertility particulars – children surviving (for currently married, widowed, divorced or separated women only)
Children ever born (for currently married, widowed, divorced or separated women only)
Number of children born alive during last year (for currently married women only).
