Census-2011 in Uttar Dinajpur district-population enumeration

The census is a tool of measuring our success and failure on our major intervention during the past decade like population control, economic development, poverty eradication, literacy campaign, reduction of child mortality, health care etc. and allow us to learn from our mistakes.

The second phase of census – population enumeration - the actual house to house enumeration is taken up to ascertain population data of the country as on 1st March at midnight, i.e., the night of 28th February-2011.

Census machinery has already been created in the district and will cover each and every individuals living in a buildings / houses during the enumeration period and collect general socio-cultural characteristics, language, religion, literacy, disability, economic activity, migration, marital status and fertility of all individuals.

All those who normally reside and are present in a household during the enumeration period – 9th February to 28th February will be enumerated.

Al those who are known to be normally residing in a household, visitors who are present in a household during the enumeration period, houseless people staying in the open roadside pavements, Hume pipes, hutments, places of worship, under fly over, bridges, railway platforms will also be covered up during the enumeration period.
The residents residing in the special areas like Railway colonies, project areas, university campus and special charges of military and para military will also be enumerated specially.

Outcome of the 2001 Census in the district:
Population : 24,41,794
Male : 12,59,737
Female : 11,82,057
Total households covered : 4,90,466
